| EDGAR MAY wrote on February 6, 2012 CITY AND STATE: SHELBY TOWNSHIP MI UNIT: B COMPANY,2ND BATTALION 14TH IR 25TH ID SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: Late in May 1953 the CCF's launched a large attack North of Seoul trying to take some more land before an armistice was signed.During the battle while we held the South side of hill Elko we tried 2 or three times to retake Hill Carson but we were repelled. On the second assault in the valley between Elko and Carson under heavy enemy fire our company commander a 1st Lieutenant from Indiana was severely wounded. Myself and another member of my squad carried him back to the crest of Elko where he was then picked up by some medics. I have every since wondered if he survived. If anyone has any information about him or any other info about this battle I would really like to hear from you. Keywords: Elko and Carson May 1953 |

| JOSEPH WIERSTEINER wrote on December 24, 2011 CITY AND STATE: CHARLESTON WV UNIT: 14TH INFANTRY 25TH INFANTRY DIVISION SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: Late January 1952 moved to Heartbreak Ridge. I was only there a couple of weeks, at most. I was the only person picked out of the company and sent to Japan to rebuild the 1st Cav Division. I had a year of leadership training and only had one year left to serve. That's the only reason I can think of that I was removed. I never received my rank because Congress had a freeze on promotions my entire enlistment. I was going to be promoted towards the end of my enlistment, Jan. 1953. I told my Company Commander to give it to someone else because I was leaving and give it to someone staying. In Japan, with 1st Cav, I made the 5th Cav Regiment football team. In the fareast command we came within 2 games of playing for the fareast championship. Would love to hear from you guys. Keywords: Hill 391, 14th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Division. Christmas 1951 spent on 391 and after Christmas went back into reserve. |
