| DAVE SLEZICKEY JR. wrote on March 13, 2006 CITY AND STATE: ANADARKO OK UNIT: C 1/158 FA SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: Gentlemen, Veterans and friends of the best division, 45th ID, Oklahoma, and home of the finest artillery battalion, 1st of the 158th, warriors of the coldest winter, particpants of 565 days of combat, your heritage has been continued. Battery C 1st Battalion 158th FA is currently serving in Bagdhad, Iraq. We have left our big guns at home and are on patrol as a security force (combination of grunt infantry, armored wheeled cav, and MP). Our troops in the sand have set a standard awed by active components, respected by other Guard entities, and requested by elements entering and leaving Baghdad. The spirits are high, morale is good. IED's are common, vehicle damage has only resulted in minor injury due to the successful training of our troops. We have started mid-tour rotations, only being in country for 2 months (for those of you who don't know, the Army allows troops to return home for 2 weeks during a combat tour nowadays) The troops in the sand are from Oklahoma with 12 from Caddo County. Prior to deployment, they had a wonderful send off from veterans of the 1/158 FA and 45th ID from WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. The unit received a tremendous amount of support from y'all that have been there, done, that and wear the ball caps to show your pride. SPC Preston Allen of Gracemont commented on M-Day, " Those thunderbirds before me, did this for a hell of alot longer and through worse conditions than I will ever be able to imagine. My hats are off to them, and if I return a 'double dirty bird' my pride will be in what they have accomplished before me. 365 plus one is what I count, the Thunderbirds, left not knowing days, months, or years, when they would be back. Thank you, I'll be home soon" God Bless and thank you for our freedom that you have allowed us to defend! Keywords: OIF, 2006, 1/158 FA, 45th ID, 45th FA BDE, Caddo County, Oklahoma, Anadarko |

| DAVID SLEZICKEY wrote on April 30, 2002 CITY AND STATE: ANADARKO OK UNIT: DETACHMENT 1 BATTERY C 1/158 FA (MLRS) SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: Presently, Battery C 1/158 FA (MLRS)is a component of the Oklahoma Army National Guard with Battery C (-) located in Chickasha, OK and Detachment 1 located in Andarko, OK, with Bn HQ in Lawton. The 1/158 FA and 1/171 FA along with an HHB compromise the 45th Field Artillery Brigade of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. First, I would like to thank all veterans who have served in any branch at any period in our nation's history. The Anadarko Armory has been home to the Field Artillery since it opened in 1938. The strong history, built upon by our soldiers of the past, leaves a rich history and legacy that all of our current troops are very proud of and is evident in historical aspects of our armory. I am the Detachment Readiness NCO (full timer) for our unit, at the Anadarko Armory, and enjoy conversations with Korean War Vets to include Col(R) Louis "Buddy" Bedoka and 1SG(R) Bob White and others. I have photographs in our "museum" from the Korean War era, as well as the unit history books. Unfortunately, I do not have any official records of the Korean War Era at my disposal, but would be more than willing to try to assist those in locating records either stored at Oklahoma Military Department, or the US Army Reserve Records Center in St Louis.
