I would be greatful for any info on him or the unit. | DONOVAN (DON) PHILLIPS wrote on March 29, 2010 CITY AND STATE: LAS VEGAS NV UNIT: BATTERY C 15TH AAA AW BN SP SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: Drafted in L. A. two days after my 21st birthday,in Feb 1951. Went to Fort Ord after induction and then to Camp Roberts for 16 weeks basic infantry training. Remember that during training we had a baby-faced 2nd Lieutenant who was spit and shine and was razzed continuously because all but one were draftees. Left Camp Stoneman, San francisco, in July and shipped to Japan. Somehow wound up in 1st Cavalry barracks in Tokyo where I was fortunately one of few assigned to Co. D Eta Jima Spec. School(Quarter Master School)which I understand was a former Japanese Naval Academy. From there to Korea sometime in Oct 1951. Joined Battery C 15th AAA as Supply Clerk and was there until April 1952 when I was rotated home spending several months at Fort McArthur in San Pedro, CA. Discharged in Nov, 1952. To this day, have no idea where I was in Korea since we moved so many times. Hope some of you can share these memories Keywords: Only names and faces I can remember are John Shields, our barber, who I believe was from Chicago, Petrowski, the Supply Sergeant, and Phillips the Chief Cook. However, have four other names but can't recall faces of these four: Glenn Magaha, Charlestown, WV., John L Ghingo, Long Island City NY, Sam Floyd, Highland Park, NJ, Eugene Iffert, Utica, NY. |
