Comments: Looking for anyone who remembers my father. We are looking for information to acquire his DD214 and metals he recieved. He has his Discharge Certificate but that's all. He resides in SC. I sent information to the NPRC but they never responded. He was their most of 1953. He recalls an ammunition dump they were guarding blew up. He was wounded field dressed and sent back up. He recalls being sent for R&R and while their he and the men that survived were told they would recieve The Bronze Star. If anyone can help me or know of anyone that can help me please contact me.

He served in the Army in Korea.
He never talked about his experiences there.
He was awarded the Bronze Star while there but the family doesn't know the story behind it. What he did that caused him to recieve this award.
I was wondering if anybody has any info on his service over there.
I think he served with the 17th Infantry, 7th Division.
Uncle Charlie passed away on November 13th 2013. He is buired at Tahoma National Cemetery.
Thank you.

Bronze Star for Valor citation told us. He was a tanker in the
Heavy Tank Company, 17th Infantry Regt, and on Sept 2 1951 the
infantry unit they were supporting came under heavy artillery
fire near Chu-Dong. He dismounted the tank and began bringing
casualties to the rear for medical assistance. The only other
thing we know is his tank's name was nicknamed Shack Rat.

Comments: I am the grand-daughter of Gerald LaVern Lawson. He recently passed, although
all of his vitals were stable. My grandfather did suffer from the mental
repercussions of war. He only recently started talking about his experience,
probaly due to his reoccurring night terrors of war. I know his life was saved by
some brave soldiers who brought him to safety, as he was shot several times. I
just would like to learn more about my grandfather..as he is no longer around to
share with me his heroic story. I would like to say thank you to those that saved
him . His name is Gerald LaVern Lawson , he enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan.
17, 1952 in Fargo ND. He served during the Korean Conflict with the 7th Army
Division, 17th Infantry Regiment, located on the 38th Parallel among noted battle
sites such as Baldy, Old Baldy, Pork Chop Hill, Jane Russell and 200. Most of his
time was spent on Hill 347. He was wounded on a counterattack on Hill 200 on
the night of July 5th, 1953. He was honorably discharged Nov 12, 1953. He was
awarded a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with
two battle stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. My Grandfather did not
speak much if his time in the service... Understandably. I just would like to thank
any one of the fellow soldiers that helped to save his life in that line.... I am
forever grateful. I would like to hear any memories of my Grandfather....for in my
heart is is and was a true hero.

Some may know him because he lost half of his left arm from trying to get rid of a hand grendade and recieved a silver star from it. Any stories, information, is very helpful for me

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew my father, Norris L.
Pickens. He went to school in San Luis Obisbo to be
a signal man. Arrived in Inchon Korea July 4th 1953.
Assigned to a bunker on Hill 200 to man a water
cooled machine gun from 6-11 July 1953. He remembers
Lt Shea and Col Read, a soldier called Garrett and
another nicknamed Rusty. He was pulled from Hill 200
on the 11th of July and went north to the DMZ area
where he was assigned as the NCO of Operations and
Training at Battalion HQ, 17th Infantry. He stayed
there until he came home to El Paso TX in July 1954.
My father is now 82 years old and would love dearly
to hear from anyone who remembers him.

Comments: Just looking to see if anyone was or did deploy with
my father. He apparently joined up with the 17th as
they transitioned through Japan, at Camp Zama around
august of 1951. He is now deceased, but of the three
sons, my being the youngest he has only opened up to
me about WWII, Korea or VietNam due to my limited
ability to understand him as a fellow soldier. It was
always hard for him to speak or open up, but it would
be good for me and to share with my brothers a better
understanding of him.

REMEMBERING PHILIP LOUGHMAN

Comments: Philip Loughman was a sergeant in the US Army. He was killed in action in Korea on June 12, 1953.

Philip Loughman's mother, Margaret Reddy Loughman, and my mother immigrated to the United States together from Ireland.

Philip was her only child.

I do not remember Philip because I was too young to
know him, but I knew his mother. She was a lovely and
special person. She died almost thirty years ago.

Whenever I read or hear about the Korean War, I think
of it in terms of the tragedy that took Philip's life
and devastated his mother's life. She was never
bitter or filled with self-pity. She was a person of
great character, strength and grace.

I hope they are at peace.

PVT FIRST CLASS SONNY B SIMPSON

Comments: I would like to post my father's Citation from
Headquarters 7th Division United States Army - My
father Sonny B Simpson was awarded the Silver Star
Medal. He also received the Purple Heart, The Bronze
Star, and other medals. I had been trying to work
with the Army so that my father could receive his
awards and unfortunately he received them the week
after his death. My father passed away on October
15, 1999.

Private First Class Sonny B. Simpson, US52852011,
Infantry, United States Army, a member of Company K,
17th Infantry, distinguished himself by gallantry in
action near Tang-Wan-Ni, Korea, on 16 June 1952.
Private First Class SIMPSON was an automatic rifleman
in a squad which was in assault of Hill 528 against a
heavily fortified enemy. As his squad advanced, the
enemy laid down a huge amount of fire from the
protection of their bunker. Private First Class
SIMPSON was wounded early in the assault but refused
evacuation and continued delivering accurate fire on
the enemy position. As the friendly squad approached
the enemy bunker, a heavy barrage of mortar and
artillery was fired upon them, producing several
casualities. Upon attempting to withdraw, the
friendly squad was subjected to heavy small arms
fire. In spite of the fact that he himself was
wounded, Private First Class SIMPSON deliberately
exposed himself to the small arms fire to assist in
the evacuation of his wounded comrades. He was the
last man in his squad to leave the hill and then came
down carrying one of the friendly casualties. The
heroic action and fierce determination in the face of
a numerically superior enemy reflects great credit
uon Private First Class SIMPSON and his actions are
in keeping with the highest traditions of the
military service. Entered the Federal service from
the State of Kentucky. L. L. Lemnitzer, Major
General U S Army Commanding
