TURKISH UNIT CO-LOCATED WITH 180TH

Comments: In June-July 1953 was there a Turkish unit co-located
with the 180th on Outpost Queen, Christmas Hill or
elsewhere? My dad mentioned before he died that a
Turkish unit was co-located with his 180th unit for a
very short time - does anyone remember this or is there
a record of that anywhere.

How close was Outpost Queen to Christmas Hill?

In the book Christmas In July it mentions 1220 as
Christmas Hill but I have seen Christmas Hill as also
being Hill 1040 - which is correct?

My father PFC G. Duane Kohn was wounded on Christmas
Hill North Korea (according to Army records) on 18 July
1953 when his unit was over run - my dad died in 1973
thus I cannot ask him these questions. Would this have
been Easy Company that was over run on 18 July 1953? I
have not been able to find anything listing what
company he was in during the battle for Christmas Hill
when his unit was over run.

Thank you advance.

Thank you

told me his unit got over run on that date

Comments: Does anyone know anything about my father, Dwight S.
Thompson from Seymour, Ct? (1928-2004) I have his
Korean War letters and some stories from the war. He
commanded a rifle platoon in Company A. The company
commander was Frank Farmer (from Ca.). Dad's letters
also mention executive officer 2 Lt.Hatcher (from S.
Dakota), and 2 Lt. Meyers from Chicago and Max
Rainey. His letters are full of life on the front and
very detailed. Dad was a soccer player and he
mentions playing soccer and baseball with both Korean
and Puerto Rican players too.
Any information would be most welcome. Thank you for

infantry division, 180th infantry regiment during
Korea. I know he was wounded on T-Bone hill on
December 28th, 1951 and died from his wounds on January
5th, 1952.

I know its been almost 60 years ago, but I am doing
some research on the family and wondered if anyone

have heard about him my whole life.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

My name is Major Tony Vacha. I am the Headquarters Company Commander for the 364th Civil Affairs Brigade. We are the senior tenant unit in the SFC Jerome F. Sears Army Reserve Center in Portland, OR. Sears Hall, as we call it, is closing after 50 years of service to our Nation. I am planning a decommissioning ceremony of the building on September 10th, 2011. We are also dedicating the entrance of our new building, the 41st Infantry Division Armed Forces Reserve Center, as the Sears / Sharff Entrance. 2LT Alfred Sharff is another DSC veteran with a Army Reserve Center named after him in Portland that is closing.
I would be grateful for anyone who knew SFC Sears, or knows currently living family members and can attend this event.

KOREAN WAR DOCUMENTARY SERIES
SHADOW MIHAI wrote on August 19, 2011

CITY AND STATE: PASADENA CA

UNIT:

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: OTHER

Comments: I am Shadow Mihai, and independent film maker. I would like to ask for your assistance on one of my projects, which I consider very important.

I am producing a documentary series on the Korean War, entitled Korea: The Forgotten War.

See some minimal information about it here: http://sjlume.com/pr_korea

This is a very important project as the Korean War, in comparison to conflicts before and after it occurred, has almost no attention paid to it. Yet, it is one of the most significant events of our recent history, and was a turning point in modern politics, technology and warfare. Through it all, the people who fought the war made incredible sacrifices on behalf of us and our freedoms. As the generation who fought the Korean War is quickly passing (my father fought in it and is in his 80s), I want to ensure that we record their memories, actions and reflections on the war while we can.

Independent film, and documentary film in general, is a labor of love. I need the assistance of people to help get this important project properly underway and completed. I need financial assistance, as well as help with access to records, information and people. I am seeking therefore to get in contact with Korean vets who want to have this record created and who might be able to help with one or more of those matters. Financially, I am taking pre-sales of completed DVDs or donations and sponsorships from individuals and businesses, all of whom will be acknowledged in the series. If I can get some minimal funding, I will be able to attend the 45th Infantry Division reunion this September with a small camera crew, to do interviews of the members there.

You can assist me by copying this note into emails and notifying anyone you know who you think would be interested in this project.

Feel free to contact me direct at the750group@gmail.com.

Thanks!

LT. RICHARD ANDERSON, 180 TH INFANTRY REGIMENT
TOM COYNE wrote on August 25, 2010

CITY AND STATE:

UNIT:

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN

Comments: To Lt. Richard Anderson's FAMILY AND OTHERS TO Whom It May Concern:

I served in N. Korea from late March, 1953 and well beyond for accumulation of my mandatory nine months (9) of military service, to include the bloody July 27, 1953 shelling and attacks on Love Company positions of the 180th Infantry Regiment 45th Infantry Division.

Lt. Richard Anderson loaded me into an ambulance (a jeep) of sorts while we were pulling off the front line on June 2 or 3(?), 1953 after a severe Chinese attack. King Company may have been hit as hard or harder than Love Company that night. (The "wiped-out," according to the New York Times later, 180th was being relieved by the 179th Infantry Regiment of the 45th).

The truck in which I was riding was blasted off the "road" by mortar shells I was told and went over a 50-75 ft. cliff in moonsoon rains, in the dark of night. I was found next morning at the foot of a hill and woke-up some time later in a hospital. A friend from home, Vic Busick, came to get me - he slipped us out a side door of the "hospital" and when I returned Lt. Anderson was waiting and told me what had happened. Also, he made sure Vic (George Company, 180th) received something to eat before sending him back to his unit.

I had nothing more than a concussion, but no one told me at the time. Upon return to my unit I was virtually useless as I could remember almost no one's name.

Anderson was a wonderful man! Repeat: Lt. Richard Anderson was a MAN! I may have been the only survivor I was told by Busick.

A REAL MAN, Anderson, was fighting mad at the event and most helpful to me!!! He has my eternal thanks.

Today is Wednesday, August 25, 2010 and only today did I learn of Anderson's recent(?) death. Most likely no one will notice this small comment for, after all, no one cares but if my good thoughts of Lt. Anderson find their way one day to any member of his remaining family, I feel better for having told this story that virtually no one on earth has ever heard.

Respectfully,

Comments: I am the grandaughter of PFC James H. McGaha. He is needing help with dates and names of Battles.
He knows that he joined in 1950 and went to Camp Polk in Louisiana from September 1950 to March 1951. Then he went by ship from April 1 to April 30 to Hokkaido,Japan in 1951. From there they went to Korea in December 1951.
He also says that while his unit shiped out Dec. 1 to Korea he was in the hospital and was unable to go until 10 days later.
If anyone has any info about battles they were in please email me.
