Comments: My father was CSM Robert S. Taylor (deceased). During the Korean conflict he was an 18-19 year old PFC. He asked me some years ago to see if I could find out anything about his squad leader, Sgt Raymond Norton of Columbus GA. If anyone happens to have been in "K" Co and remembers either one, I would love to communicate with you.

Comments: I thought I was the only person that remembered that place. It's been a long time but I think I remember you. I have never meet anyone from the 3rd Battlion or K co. in all my travels. I have met people from the 1st an 2nd Batt. But never anyone from Beppu. I hope life has been as good to you as it has been for me, because we are all lucky to be enjoying it.

From what I have been able to find out, he was in the 187th Airborne Combat Team, Regular Army serving as a foward observer with Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Infrantry Division. He became a POW on August 12, 1951 and was released September 2, 1952 new Wonju Korea. Plese email me if you know anything.

Old data found

Darren Hanson wrote on 2008-09-10 22:02:00.0

Comments: Recently found is some old data with a post card to family that never made it. I would like to find the rightful owner of this priceless material.

It belonged to a SFC Wood, Clyde H. and is dated some time around the late 1950's.

This is material from the 187th ABN.R.C.T. SFC Wood was the chief instructor during this time and with company L and maybe known around Fort Hood, TX.

Anyone with information is asked to contact me and if you know what material I have you must identify it. As well; I will be going to the media for their help in this search. I am determined to find the proper owner or family.

My mother just passed and she would not allow him to contact any of his old units, I believe now would be an excellent time for one of his old buddies to contact him.

Air Force Draftsman Claims 187th Infantry Battlefield Commission To First Lieutenant 1951

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Hal Barker wrote on 2008-06-15 08:30:17.0

Comments: I am researching an Air Force draftsman who claims he joined the 187th at Fort Campbell and was shipped to Korea in 1950. Reported to have risen from Army Private to Master Sergeant, First Sergeant, then battlefield commission to First Lieutenant (not Second Lt.) in 1951 as Company Commander in the 187th at age 19.

Apparently claims two combat jumps.

NARA records show this soldier joined the Air Force on November 28, 1950, and was trained as an engineering draftsman in CONUS.

He subsequently did join the Army in September 1951, went to OCS and NARA records cite Airborne training in 1953.

If you were in the 187th in 1950 and 1951 and have rosters, reports, or other information that would document truth or falsity of said service with the 187th RCT, please contact Hal Barker immediately at hbarker@kwp.org
