Comments: I am looking for anyone who was with this outfit in
the early years, Went over on the USS Black to
Pusan and then out to battlefield as a #1 gunner of
an 81mm group. When came back from 1st fight, we had
a radioman killed with a mine. So I volunteered.
Turned out I was then a radio operator with a 4olb
radio in the Forword Observer Group, Not a safe
place to be. But, My Captain said he could not have
a Private operating his radio, so, a field promotion
took effect and I was now a Corporal. BUT, was
wounded and sent back to Army/Navy hospital in
Hotsprings, Ark. Spent 9 month there and was
permantly discharged. RETIRED, Looking for anyone
out there who could help me get my back pay, so to
speak. As you know they say the records were
distroyed by fire. Thanks for any help. tom

Comments: Looking for any information someone can give me about
the 29th infantry regiment 3rd battalion during the
Korean War. I was told they could have been attached to
the 19th Infantry Regiment while in Korea. My dad,
James Matthews was in Okinawa in
1949 and went to Korea in June/July 1950. Was in the
battle at Hadong and then his unit was placed with
other units since most of the men were KIA or WIA.
I have no idea what company he was with but would like
to find out any information about what battles he was
in, awards received and what units he was with in
Korea.

Thanks for your help,

CITY AND STATE: CLARKSVILLE TN

UNIT: 24TH MEDICAL BATTALION, 24TH DIVISION

Comments: It has been many years now, but it is possible that Col. Guy S. Meloy, Jr., was one of seven patients in my ambulance as we retreated from the front lines ahead of the 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Division, on July 16, 1950. During this evacuation I was wounded by heavy machine gun fire. I visited with him on the British hospital ship, HMHS Maine, while we were being transported to Osaka, Japan. As a result of the action above I was recommended for a CMH, subsequently receiving the DSC.

I recently learned that Col. Meloy is no longer with us. I would like to offer my condolences to his family and ask if they (or anyone who sees this query) ever heard him speak of the above event, or if anyone knows who recommended me for the medal. The information would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you.

missing for 3 months before they found his body on the
side of a hill where he was tending to wounded. My dad
was his younger brother, both of us would love to
correspond with anyone who served with him. Thank you.
