Was in flash section (which didn,t work because we couldn,t see a common target) so we just dir4ected fire with binoculars.I received an extra $50 per month combat pay the entire time I was in Korea, except for 5 days R&R in japan. I wonder does anyone remember the general court marshall of our platoon Sgt Gale. He was charged with murder one, of a ROK soldier.

My outfit was 1st field artillery Btln "A" B'try. This picture is of me
in front of the Imjin River about june July '51.
Banks on the other side were Chinese. They use to swim the river to give
up while their Buddies fired on them. We would go down and pick up the
ones that survived..Hope the pic stirs some memories.

Hq & Hq Btry was just north of Teague. The Battalion was attached, first
to the First Cav, subsequently to th 24th Inf Div, 25th, etc. Hq & Hq
Btry suffered first casualties on New Years Day 1950-51 (SFC Dye & Cpl
Watson were killed, Sgt Ritter wounded) Other casualties followed in
other units as well and at different times. The Battalion was convered
to a 105 Gun Battalion in the winter of 50-51. Undersigned was in
Survey section, and later was Battalion Mail Clerk as a Corporal.
I shipped out with he first FA Obsn Bn from Ft Sill in Aug 50, arrived
Korea August 26, 1950. I came home in July 51. The Battalion was
scattered all over Korea. We went as far North as most US Units, and a
day or so after Thanksgiving 1950, we got chased all the way back to
Teague. I would like to make contact with any former members who were in
First Ob in 49 through 51.

I am a veteran of the Korean war. Served with Battery A, 1st Field
Artilerry Battallion, from Feb. 1952 until January 1953. I was a
platoon Sergeant doing surveys across a wide area, was stationed near
"Old Baldy" in the west-central part of Korea.
I also served with the 633rd. Tank Destroyer Battallion in central
Europe durin WWII.
Would enjoy hearing from anyone who served in those Units.
The WWII Vets started a reunion in Appx. 1980, Korean Vets began to
find out about it and now both groups participate,
Yes we were attached to the Eight Army. Our speciality was operating
Flash and Sound OP'S to locate enemy fire and obtain Counter-Battery
fire on them.

From the newspaper articles I have I found the following information
serving with the 252nd T.T. Co. after frontline duty in the Inchon
landing, was assigned to the 351st transportation Group. last post was
at Yongu near the 38th parallel.
I found an article Letters to the Editor that my father wrote when he
wanted the paper which was coming to him in Korea, transferred back to
the States as he was rotating back. It has the following info:
S.F.C. Wendell D. Higgins
B Btry., 1st F.O.B.
APO 909, SanFrancisco, Ca.
I have newspaper articles that say he received the Bronze Star on
November 11, 1950 for bravery in Korea. The article also states he was
awarded the Purple Heart on June 3 for wounds received while saving two
of his buddies from burning to death when a bank of guerillas set fure
to 3 US Army trucks. He got them safely back on a wrecker he was
driving. My father recently passed away. His discharge papers state
that he was not wounded.

I was in Korea from May 1951 to April 1952. I was in HQ Battery of
1FAOBN, I was in the first group of draftee replacements to arrive.
The outfit came from Ft. Sill, OK, arriving in Aug 1950. and was the
only regular Army unit of it's kind. Code name, "Nathan Hale".
I have read many books on the war but never found mention of our unit.
The entire Bn had to run the Gauntlet at Kunu-ri (Nov-Dec 1950).
We started out with sound, flash and radar, but the radar was captured
and didn't work well anyway, in the Korean hills.
Our letter batteries were up on the front lines, one with each Corps.
