MUNSAN CORRIDOR CHAPLAIN |
| CAROL WEDEVEN wrote on January 17, 2006 CITY AND STATE: NEWTOWN SQUARE PA UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: Please help me find a chaplain who served in the Pubwon-ni area. I have a (1964?)photo of him with two orphans from Happiness Orphanage, 20 orphans driven weekly to chapel by orphanage father via bus. One child in the picture is Goo Sooni, an Amerasian, about 11 yrs. Her mother: Jung Song Ja, "Mickey" to GIs, from Pubwon-ni, near MIckey Mouse Corner. Just before chaplain returned to US, he took Sooni to Elvis movie, "Viva Las Vegas" and to base cafeteria for hamburg. The chaplain left "a lot of money" with Sooni's mother to "take care of Sooni". Sooni was rescued by the author, Pearl S. Buck, brought to the states, is now married, a mother of two grown sons, middle school math teacher and a strong supporter of the Pearl S. Buck efforts to care for Amerasian children around the world. I am writing Sooni's memoir. She would like very much to thank the chaplain for his kindness. My husband and I are trying to find the gentleman for her. If anyone has any inkling as to the identification of this chaplain, any source for our search, or whatever, we do not have his name and would appreciate very much any help someone might be able to give. Bless you. Carol Wedeven If you're interested, we will send digitized photo. SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FRIEND OF VETERAN Comments: I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE MEN OF 2ND RANGER COMPANY FOR ALL THE SACRIFICE THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE HAD TO ENDURE. NOT ONLY WERE YOU DEALING WITH THE ENEMY ON THE BATTLEFIELD, BUT YOU HAD TO ALSO CONTEND WITH SEGREGATION. KNOW IT OR NOT, BUT YOU HAVE PROVIDED THE PROPER EXAMPLE OF LEADERSHIP, THAT OUR YOUNGER GENERATION NEEDS STILL TODAY. YOU ARE ONE OF THE REASONS THAT I MYSELF ASPIRED TO BE A RANGER, OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THEY ARE THE BEST FIGHTING MILITARY ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD! ANYWAY, I END WHERE I BEGAN. THANK YOU! I AM GREATFUL FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOU HAVE SERVED AS MY MOTIVATION TO BE THE BEST I CAN BE! SINCERELY: 1SG HILDERBRAND (RLTW) (DESERT STORM, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 1-3) Keywords: |
