Comments: Can anyone help me with a picture of insgnia or info on where to get insignia with pentagon included in the insignia for the 555 (Triple Nickel). My father is Kenneth Herndon from TX and I do not have very much info on his service in Korea. The stories in this post sound like stories told to me 30 years ago.In about 1970 I found metals that he received and he moved them ,will not talk about them and have not seen them since.

Long story short all he seems to want now is a hat with that insignia and can not find one- he is now 80 and I would like to have a hat made for him.

He was an Aircraft Machanic who was in the 24 Army Division and was transfered into the 555 F A Air Section after a battle at ChunChon Korea on April 24, 1951. I understand he was trannsfered so that he could get his Sargants Ratings. He never talked about his Army Days, except that he was Invited to join and called back. We receiently found a Daniel Cauffiel on the internet as being one of seven who founded the 307th Bombardment Group in Reno, Nevada. I know he worked on B-24's. Is there any connection of that to the 555 F A.
Thank you for this website so we may inquire.

He left everything behind but his helmet and rifle. They threw thermite charges down the barrels of their guns to make them unusable for the Chinese. I believe this was along the parallel in either 1952 or early 53. Not sure.

CANNONEER IN THE KOREAN WAR FROM JANUARY 1950 TO 1951

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN

Comments: I am the daughter of John Rentz, who fought in the Korean war from January 1950 to 1951. My father was a cannoneer. He also fought in WWII in 1947. My father sat the site on the gun and fired when ordered. His gun was hit and my father was hit by shrapnel that destoryed the right side of his skull. He was taken to a hospital in Pusson where he had to have a steel plate put in his head.

My father has been trying to get his pension for years now. Our wonderful VA claims his medical record burnt and there is no proof that he has the steel plate.
He has been getting the run around for years now.
We are in the process of trying again.

My father is 86 years old and is in fair health, he deserves his money.

Can anyone help us or give us some suggestion on what to do.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who knew my uncle Harry Lee. Unfortunately my Uncle died in 1999. He didnt talk a whole lot about his experiences but he did share a few stories. We also have a few pictures and was wondering if any body out there would like to see them and identify the people in them. One picture in particular is of a young Korean Boy approximately 10 years old dressed in a assortmant of army hand me down cloths. My uncle said he was kind of like a unit mascot and after the unit was overrun he never saw him again. According to my Uncles DD214 he was assigned to the Service Battery Company. He was a truck driver and a welder and served from 1953 to 1954. He was wounded by sharpnel in the legs and stomache. He was from a small town in Missouri called Lutesville. Thank you for taking time to read this and God Bless you all and keep you in good health.
