Karl West wrote on 2004-06-02 19:53:35.0

Comments: Karl served 2 terms in Korea 1st from Sept. 1950 to July 15, 1952. He re-enlisted on July 16, 1952 and was in Korea until the cease fire, he left the service in 1955.

He never said much about what happened in the war, that was just his way, he earned many decorations during the war that we did not know about until after his passing on May 27, 2004 when we were given copies of his discharge papers to use when writting his obituary.

We would like to hear from anyone that knew him during this time as we are extremely proud of him and proud of his service to our country.

Comments: I am his nephew, my father is his brother. Until recently we that he was MIA, now gov. records show he was identified and listed date of loss was 9-16-50. I know that my father told me his mother had gone sometime around date of loss to identify remains, but said they were not his. She has been deceased since the late 70's and that was the last we had heard about my Uncle Francisco Alonzo. If anyone knew him or can give me any info on how to get the information on who identified his remains and where his has been put to rest.

Thank you,

David Alonzo

Looking for information About Pfc Leonard Kravitz

MITCHEL (MITCH) Libman wrote on 2003-12-22 22:58:37.0

Comments: I am looking for any members of L company 2nd platoon or anyone else that is familiar with the battle that took place on hill 122 on March 6&7th in the vicinity of Yangnyong, Korea in 1951. Pfc Kravitz was nominated for the Medal Of Honor for refusing to leave the machine gun he took over when the machine gunner was wounded and making it possible for the other members of his platoon to succesfully withdraw while screaming for him to withdraw with them. When the Chinese Troops realized he was still there, killing many of their troops, they turned all their weapons on him including small arms, grenades, mortars. The retreating troops made it back safely to the back up position but could still hear his machine gun firing and the dieing Chinese troops screaming as they fell. Eventually it became quiet. The next morning they went back to find Pfc Kravitz. They found him slumped over the machine gun dead, with dead Chinese all around, including two in his emplacement with him. he had only six bullets left in his machine gun. When his nomination for the Medal Of Honor reached the Pentagon it was downgraded to the Distinguished Service Cross. His Sgt.and the ammo carrier were both eyewitness to the event and signed affidavits to the facts. The Sgt was Steve A. Falat and the Ammo carrier was Pfc RichardG. Remery. If this sounds familiar to anyone, or anyone that was there and is still here Because of PFC Leonard Kravitz, Please be kind enough to get in touch with me. Thank you, Mitch

Jerome’s remains are still buried outside of Pyongyang near a village called Chabok-tong were he was killed with two other men who are believed to be 2nd LT Elvin M. Lee and PFC Robert D. Pierce. One of the four men who set out that day (Oct 30 1950) in a jeep survived the attack. His name might have been Simpson. Jerome is one of four boys from the graduating class of 49 who was KIA that year and the only one whose remains were not returned home out of eight men in all from our county. I would greatly appreciate any information. Thank you all for preserving our freedom
