Comments: Looking for anyone in HQ 2nd BN Signal Platoon, that remembers me before requesting transfer to E Co. Someone who remembers me in E Co, when sent to the hopital due to Kidney damage. Was riding on the back of a truck with 2nd Platoon, when had to be medievaced. Anyone from Medics to Aid Station who may happen to remember me.
My Records were destroyed in the fire in St Louis, Army record center. ExWife destroyed my DD14, so have no record of even being in the Army. Have lasting damage to my Kidney damaged when someone jumped in foxhole landing on my kidney. Been in the hospital many times, but had to pay for my own Hospitalization ever since. Especially if anyone has an pictures including me, would appreciate it.
OR if any of the Company Clerks have an records.
Thanks for any help, am 80 now, damage has been progressing over the years and certainly could use the VA.
Member of 5th RCT Assn, wish everyone would join.

Mitchel Libman wrote on 2009-02-21 23:31:51.0
Comments: My name is Mitchel Libman and I have been fighting to get Pfc Leonard Kravitz the Medal Of Honor he deserves for saving the lives of rwo platoons of his comrades that were being over run by hordes of Chinese troops. He refused to leave the machine gun he had taken over when the machinegunner was wounded. The troops were ordered to retreat. They screamed for him to grab his weapon and join them. He screamed back at them to "get the hell out of there while they can". They could hear his weapon firing for a long time after they reached safety. They heard the explosions of many grenades and then silence. When they went for him the nexr morning, they found him lying over his weapon. There were only six bullets left in his gun. He was mortally wounded. He was nominated for the Medal Of Honor for that action but it was downgraded to the Distinguished Service Cross at the Pentagon. I have been fighting to get Pfc Kravitz the medal he really earned for almost 50 years, I do believe this is the year he will get it. If there is anyone out there who was part of that group please try to reach Mitchel Libman through the Korean War Project. Thank you.

Douglas Noyes wrote on 2004-11-11 17:06:52.0
Comments: My father was Francis L. Noyes from Byron, Illinois. He was a member of the 5th RCT Co L. My dad never spoke much about his service, until I asked him to speak to my history class 12 years ago. He spoke about things and people my family had never heard of before. He specifically cried about the death of his good friend Ray Moccio. He said to me afterward he wanted to find Ray's grave. However, my dad passed away six years ago without seeing it. I don't think he really wanted to though.
I did find Ray's grave in Hillside, Illinois and his brother Frank who lives in Melrose Park, Illinois. We met one year ago after speaking for the first time on Veteran's Day 2003. There are people that my dad, Fran Noyes, and Frank's brother, Ray Moccio served with and would like to meet or know more about. If you know anything regarding these individuals, I would greatly appreciate you contacting me. They are:
John Sylowicz, Chicago, Illinois Eugene(?) Lowery, Billings, Montana George Tallman, (died 8-15-52), New Jersey
These five men all served together. Noyes and Lowery were with Tallman and Moccio when they were killed. Sylowicz went to boot camp and overseas with Noyes and Moccio. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Doug Noyes

He never said much about what happened in the war, that was just his way, he earned many decorations during the war that we did not know about until after his passing on May 27, 2004 when we were given copies of his discharge papers to use when writting his obituary.

Comments: I am his nephew, my father is his brother. Until recently we that he was MIA, now gov. records show he was identified and listed date of loss was 9-16-50. I know that my father told me his mother had gone sometime around date of loss to identify remains, but said they were not his. She has been deceased since the late 70's and that was the last we had heard about my Uncle Francisco Alonzo. If anyone knew him or can give me any info on how to get the information on who identified his remains and where his has been put to rest.
Thank you,
David Alonzo

MITCHEL (MITCH) Libman wrote on 2003-12-22 22:58:37.0
Comments: I am looking for any members of L company 2nd platoon or anyone else that is familiar with the battle that took place on hill 122 on March 6&7th in the vicinity of Yangnyong, Korea in 1951. Pfc Kravitz was nominated for the Medal Of Honor for refusing to leave the machine gun he took over when the machine gunner was wounded and making it possible for the other members of his platoon to succesfully withdraw while screaming for him to withdraw with them. When the Chinese Troops realized he was still there, killing many of their troops, they turned all their weapons on him including small arms, grenades, mortars. The retreating troops made it back safely to the back up position but could still hear his machine gun firing and the dieing Chinese troops screaming as they fell. Eventually it became quiet. The next morning they went back to find Pfc Kravitz. They found him slumped over the machine gun dead, with dead Chinese all around, including two in his emplacement with him. he had only six bullets left in his machine gun. When his nomination for the Medal Of Honor reached the Pentagon it was downgraded to the Distinguished Service Cross. His Sgt.and the ammo carrier were both eyewitness to the event and signed affidavits to the facts. The Sgt was Steve A. Falat and the Ammo carrier was Pfc RichardG. Remery. If this sounds familiar to anyone, or anyone that was there and is still here Because of PFC Leonard Kravitz, Please be kind enough to get in touch with me. Thank you, Mitch

One of the four men who set out that day (Oct 30 1950) in a jeep survived the attack. His name might have been Simpson. Jerome is one of four boys from the graduating class of 49 who was KIA that year and the only one whose remains were not returned home out of eight men in all from our county. PFC Herman Lee Jacobs - KIA 22/4/51 |

Kay Cameron wrote on 2003-07-11 13:58:06.0
Comments: I am looking for information about the battle in which my uncle, Herman Jacobs, was MIA on 22 April 1951.
PFC Herman Lee Jacobs, US-55029010, E Co. of 5th Infantry Regiment (then reinforced as a Regimental Combat Team) 25th Infantry Division (some records mistakently indicate 5th Cavalry Regiment)
On 22 April 1951 the 5th Infantry was dug into positions approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Chrowon and south of the DMZ. Massive Chinese forces had regrouped from previous attempts to penetrate the valley areas east of Seoul and renewed their efforts. this action was fought in the area south of the "Iron Triangle", which is in the present DMZ. The 1st and 2nd Battalions launched an attack to the north. The 1st Battalion encountered a large enemy force and commenced an artillery attack on it, followed by automatic weapons and small arms fire. The enemy withdrew, and the 1st Battalion set up defensive positions on the left flank of 1st Battalion. The enemy launched a massive attack on the left flank of the 2nd Battalion that was met by artillery fire. The artillery followed by automatic weapons and small arms fire successfully repelled the enemy, and by the end of the day, both battalions continued to hold their positions and fortify their defenses. It was during this fighting that PFC Jacobs became missing in action.
Is there any vet out there who remembers this battle and can tell me more about it? Is there anyone who remembers my Uncle Herman? He trained in Camp Carson, Colorado before going to Korea, was an excellent shot, and loved plants.
Thank you for any help you can give his family.

Dad was injured in May, 1951, by a sniper's bullet while serving with the above-mentioned unit. He suffered a through and through head wound, leaving him mostly blind and with brain damage. He is now in an assisted living facility in Texas, suffering from dementia (Alzheimers). If anyone remembers Dad, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Comments: Kenneth Thornton is my Uncle. He was in S. Korea during 1950-1951. He served as a medic. He took shrapnel and received the Purple Heart. I think he is an American Hero. He blushes at the thought. I think it would be lovely to gather some names, photos, and stories to give him...little remembrances while he is still alive, instead of waiting for that Appointed Time which we all must face. I would appreciate any information. Please just send to my email and give your email if you'd like and I will answer it. Thank you so much. Carol Wengel

My mom tells me he was very kind and that he cried very hard on the day he had to leave his family to go to Korea. But thats as far as she goes. I was just wondering by chance if somebody knew him or of him?? I would love to hear from anyone with information. Please. I know he was around 21 when he passed away, and I believe they said he was MIA for sometime, but on all the records I find it says his date of death was June 25,1952?

Comments: This is my second time writing to find out any information about my Dad, George Ernest Wells. I want to thank all who have bothered to reply to my letters. Especially Don Roush. I have received new information on my Dad and hope that this more specific info will jog someones memory of him. George served in Korea from 8/5/51 to 8/16/52. He always said his company was a "Bastard" unit to which Mr. Roush comfirmed. He was a member of Company C, 5th RCT. I'm not sure of the Divsion, but my Mom thought it was 5th Army. His unit was sent into Koje-do Prison during the riots to "Take Care of the Situation". I know this involved hand to hand combat and a General Dodd was saved. He received the Korean Service Medal and Two Bronze Stars for his service. He spoke of a fella he served with that had a saying, "When I die I'm going to heaven for lunch, if I don't see your smiling faces...I'm going to hell and join the bunch." maybe this might jog someones memory. Dad served out the rest of his tour in Belvoir Virginia. He trained soldiers in demolition and trained recruits for their Korean tour. He was a SGT(T) or Tech Sargent. A little discription of Dad; He was 5ft 8in. He could be mean as nails with a hot temper to go with it. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick witted. He didn't take crap from anyone no matter what your rank. He loved his whisky and beer. He had auburn hair and green/brown eyes. I have so much more information than when I first started my quest. My Mom said not to get my hopes up about getting too much information, because like my Father, alot of you don't like to wave your own flags. I just hope and pray that you are sharing your information with a family member or better yet...writing it down. We, as children of Korean War Vets need to know the stories. We need to share the stories with our children...We must never forget! Thank All of you for your sacrafices!

Comments: My family would like to get more information about our husband and Father George E. Wells. I was quit overwhelmed when I saw how many family members are in the same situation as us. George served his country from 8/1950 to 8/1953. He rarely shared his experiences with anyone. Sometimes sharing a funny story about fellas he served with, or trouble that he may have gotten into. (and out of, there by the grace of God) My father had a quick wit about him and a quicker temper. He enjoyed his whiskey and beer and continued to enjoy them right to the end. He passed away 9/1/97. These are a few of his qualities that might jog your memory about him. We know he helped save a General's life during a prison uprising (Kogi Island?) He was sent in with a handful of guys to take care of this situation. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, for what we do not know. This was part of his past he did not speak of. So, if you know anything at all about George or of someone or someplace we might have better luck, please contact us. Thank you so much! Norma

Comments: My father (short-stout, glasses, red haired Irishman from Wisconsin) served with the 5th rct in 1950-51(?)with a tank company (shermans(?) and then moved to a line infantry company. In his infantry unit, He commented that he had a number of Japanese-Americans who fought hard for a number of obvious reasons. In addition, there were a number African-Americans so it appears that his unit was fully integrated. He finally showed me pictures of alot of dead Chinese on the slopes in front of their positions as he and a group of soldiers did a quick pose.

Notation on picture says he had been wounded once, returning to unit. I did not record, and do not remember his first name. Another man in the picture was named Crofoot ( or Crowfoot). He was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, I believe he was from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. I was on my way to the 3rd ID. The picture was made by a man named Bander (Bender)(Binder).

Did you know Pfc Leonard Kravitz |

 |
MITCHEL (MITCH) Libman wrote on 2002-05-02 16:24:32.0
Comments: Pfc Leonard Kravitz was nominated for the MOH for Heroic action performed on March 6th and 7th.His award was downgraded to the DSC.He was a member of company M, 5th Infantry Regiment. He was an assistant machine gunner attached to Company L when he performed his heroic action. He refused to retreat when so ordered and stayed alone defending the retreating platoons thereby drawing all enemy fire since he was killing so many of the enemy. He was found the next day slumped over his machine gun with inumerable dead chinese soldiers all around and in his embankment with him. He only had six bullets left in his machine gun. I have just been granted, by Congressional Order, to have his original nomination for the MOH reviewed. It would help tremendously if anyone out there remembers him and can get in touch with me. He was a member of the 5th RCT.

Comments: Am looking for information about the time my father served. I have one letter that was sent home from him. The return address shows he was Cpl. Kenneth P. Goble - RA19343273 - Med Tank Co.5th RCT. This is an exerpt from the letter that may be helpful. "We are out on a dug in defense line now with A company of the 5th. We are south of Soule a little ways waiting for the *&^$$@. I hope they don't come. By the way do you read anything about the 24th Division back there. The 5th Regimental Combat Team is attached to them now. We have been with the 25th 1st Cavs, 24th the 27th British Brigade, 1st Marines and 2nd Division since weve been here. The 7th, 3rd & 11th Airborne are the only divisions we haven't been with. We have 6 decorations so far". Am interested in any stories you might have about him. As I have also noticed in previous posts it is not something our loved ones spoke of freely. He was discharged from the service as a Master Sargeant I believe. May have also been known as Paul Goble. He died about 20 years ago and I would like any information you can provide. Thanks in advance.

Comments: Daughter looking for more info and service photo of her father Sgt Raymond Waligorki - KIA 05/19/51 Ray died when my ister was only 2 and she has never seen a picture of him.
Recently we found the marriage certificate of my Mom and Raymond Waligorski, and some military papers on Ray. Raymond had re-enlisted for a 2nd time and was sent to Korea. I am trying desperately to locate any information on where and how he died, any living family, or veterans who may have served with him. I am researching for his daughter Linda Jo, who was 2 years old when he was killed. She is my step-sister and I wish to piece together a record of her father's military history for her. The only validated info we have is Raymond Waligorski was a Sargeant 5 INF RGT RGT CBT TM - killed in action May 19, 1951 Korea. Ray was from Buffalo, Erie County NY, DOB 03/30/27, married to Josephine J Gac 01/26/49 at Our Lady of Pompeil, Lancaster, NY. He received several medals all of which can not be located at the present time. If anyone can assist me in my search for the of events of Ray's military service and life history, my sister would gain a piece of her own history that has been a mystery for over 50 years.

I wish I had this site when he was alive because he had so many questions that we could not find answers for. Now, I'm finding the answers, but he is not here to share them with. Thank you to ALL the Korean War Veterans, their family and friends who support them. If you are a family member of a Korean War veteran and you don't understand what the war was about. Start reading and learn how totalitarianism was stopped in its tracks. Thank you and God Bless you. Cathy

Comments: I am looking for anyone who knows my father, Joseph Beote. He has told me many stories of the heroic men he served with and details of his time in Korea. His eye sight is going, he can't drive and his legs often fail him. He has always been very sentimental of his unit. I would loive for anyone who knows of him to email/write me so I can be a bridge for correspondance. Thank you

Comments: My Dad passed away in June. I have found more books, papers, etc. about the "Korean Conflict" especially a picture history book on the Victory Division. Not sure of the copyright. Intro signed by Gen.MacArthur is 1952. It appears to be a genuine signature.
