8219TH AU FA TOPOGRAPHIC AND METEOROLOGICAL DET. |
| NOLEN THORN wrote on January 27, 2011 CITY AND STATE: EL PASO TX UNIT: 8219TH TOPO. - METERO. DET., CHUNCHON, KOREA SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: OTHER Comments: After completing the Survey school at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma I arrived at the unit in the fall of 1953. Our Philippine 1st Sgt. Pagemoto (sp.?), called him "Pag", found out I could type so he made me the Unit clerk. My reaction: GREAT, I don't have to climb those damn hills anymore and I can sleep in a warm Quonset hut. I remained as unit clerk until the Unit disband. A large sign in front of the unit read "8219th - Born in Korea" we added and Died in Korea. It was a small unit with a lot of great guys. I still have a lot of pictures of the unit and many of the guys in the unit. I will email them to any of you if you would like to make a copy of the pictures. Contact me at nthorn@elp.rr.com and send me you email address. Keywords: Nearest town to unit - Chunchon, Korea |

Would like to know the unit history from Japan to end of 1951. Not sure if it was 8219 or 8221, just that it was an artillery metrology unit. Keywords: |

| JOHN BARKER wrote on January 11, 2001 CITY AND STATE: CAMDENTON MO UNIT: 8219 ARMY UNIT SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I would love to hear from other men serving from May 1953 through August 1954. Would especially like a copy of any old rosters during the above time frame. The area we had to evacuate just before the North Korea push at the close of the police action is now a part of the DMZ.
