ROBINSON- FLYING FROM A CARRIER

CITY AND STATE: ROSEVILLE CA

UNIT: UNKNOWN

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER

Comments: I am seeking anyone with information or knowledge of Calvin Lester Robinson ? He sometimes went by the name of Tex or Robbie. This was my father, and I know very little about him. I had been told: He was a pilot who flew off of Air Craft Carriers, during the Korean war. Would that mean he was in the Air Force or the Navy? Could it have been either? He was a Texan. He played many musical instruments, especially Guitar, Fiddle, piano, and accordion. He loved to entertain people. (He was a good Yodeler- in that Texas style) He was tall (6'2 to 6'4) and had a good sense of humor, practical joker, And of course he loved to chase the women. I know he did not die in Korea- I would not be here. I was born in 59. He did maintain a Pilots License after he returned home, he used to take us up in a Cessna on occasion. I don't have much more info, than that. I don't know if he is alive or dead! The lack of knowledge has pretty much possessed me over the years since he disappeared. Thank you, for anything you can tell me, no matter how big or slight. I cant describe this feeling of knowing nothing of my Dad.

Comments: Hi, I am looking for shipmates of my dad. He was on this ship USS Antietam (CV-36) just shortly after WWII I believe. He was born in 1927 and was actually drafted into the Army, but ran as fast as he could to the Navy Enlistment office. So, he was probably only 17 or so when he was drafted? I never did get the actual dates and he is not in good health, so I was trying to find information on his unit and if there are any shipmates. I know he went to the South Pacific where there was a Typhoon they all had to endure - he went to Japan and brought back a beautiful silk painting of Tigers. I believe he was in Hawaii at some point - Australia was his favorite.

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON

Comments: Hi all,

I'm looking for info on William Lee Richards, served on USS Antietam CV-36 sometime between July 1947 thru 1949. (His DD-214 is extremely difficult to read so I'm afraid I can't pin it more closely.) We remember him talking about being stationed in San Diego w/ the Antietam, and he mentioned something about being on board her when some movie was filmed. Ratings given are:
AS, AA, AR. Also,
Airman, AN, USN.

Odd thing here is that he never mentioned service in the Pacific, which is where the Antietam was stationed from late 45 thru early 48. His enlistment date is given as July 1947.

Would truly appreciate ANY info or suggestions on where to look for info. Also would love to contact anyone that may have known Bill.

THANKS!

Tracey
