Our F-6s did a few "touch and goes" for a day on the runway at Pensacola before trying to land on board the Cabot. We sailed down to Galvestion Texas. We took on fresh drinking water there. Never did get that Sulpher taste out of the tanks. I was in a starboard side "well" just off the flight deck during operations working as a "fly one talker" relaying information. The rest of the time I worked on plane maintence records. We towed a yellow gunnery target some days. Had two planes go over the side, one on a "cold cat shot" the other landed missing everything including the barrier cables. Both men survived. Sorry to hear the old girl is being cut up and scraped.
