LT HAROLD PATRICK CONROY |
| NANCY CONROY wrote on December 31, 2011 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, Lt. Harold Patrick Conroy, was a fighter pilot on board the USS Kearsarge during one of its Korean deployments, possibly 1950 or 1952-3. He did two tours of duty in Korea. I have very little information about all of this, but I believe that my father was one of the few survivors from his squadron. I would like more information, or to contact others looking for similiar information. Nancy A. Conroy daughter of Lt. Harold Patrick Conroy (Deceased) Keywords: Kearsarge fighter pilot Korea |

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT MY DAD, ROBERT CORDER |
| ANNA CORDER wrote on January 27, 2011 CITY AND STATE: MCKINNEY TX UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I am the daughter of Robert "Bob" Corder who was aboard the USS Kearsarge during it's 1953-1954 cruise in support of the Korean war. My dad was a chaplain aboard the ship. I recall many stories of his time aboard such as; the ship pulled into port on the day that the US signed the treaty and never had to fire a shot. His version of the story is that "the enemy knew the Texans had come to town and surrended." :) Also, the ship was a victim of a typhoon which bent it in the middle but the old girl was still seaworthy and the movie Caine Mutiny was also filmed aboard the ship while my dad was stationed on it. He was nearly court martialed for refusing to lift Lauren Bacall into the plane because it would cause him to look up her skirt. LOL. There are more, I'm sure! My father suffered a stroke two years ago and sadly, his memory is going. I am looking for anyone that might have known him, or served with him or can let my family in on stories from the ship! There are so many things I wished I'd ask him when I was younger. Please reach out to me if you can! Thank you in advance! Keywords: USS Kearsarge, Navy Chaplain, Caine Mutiny |

Still have some memorable self-portraits I took while nobody was around, blew up, retouched and printed on the arial enlarger. Also a priceless portrait that was done one day when the 1st class in charge (don't recall his name) told me they needed a volunteer for a poster and I was the volunteer. He had me get in my best blues and did a full-front photo. Then blew it up lifesize, had it mounted on a board and sealed, then placed at the departure gate where we caught the nickel snatcher over to San Diego, next to a 6 foot mirror with a sign that read "If you look like this, you are ready to go on liberty". I still have a copy and I tell my grandkids that this is the most aquared-away sailor in the US of N. Also had a hair-raising experience when we went out to the runway, mounted a movie cam in the back of a pickup, and raced down the taxiway at 80 miles per hour shooting an F9F that was landing "wheels-up" on the adjacent runway. A shower of sparks and a lot of flying bits of metal later he spun out in a cloud of dirt ahead of us in the grass. Needless to say the pilot exited in one helluva hurry. Never did get to see the finished product as I was given orders to go to AN"P" school in Norman, Oklahoma the next week and bid a fond adieu. Good to see your message.
