Comments: My father-in-law, WALTER H. GOINS, served on the USS Kula Gulf from March 1953 to March 1955. As his discharge papers give his last rank as Baker 3-C we believe he as on board in the kitchen.
We are looking for anyone that may remember him, or can share with us what life was like on the USS Kula Gulf during his duty time. Sadly, Dad passed away in 1992. As we don't know much about his Naval experience we would be appreciative of any information.
Kind regards, Barbara

Comments: My dad was on board the Kula Gulf, He is picture at the home site with a group of men in the laundry picture #NS0310808 he is in the second row from the front , in the middle wearing the hat. Does anyone else know who the other men are? He talked about the guys all the time. He never went to reunions, didnt know how to locate anyone. I miss him. He dies 3 years ago. It was because he had been in the navy that I went in. I was in for 4 years on the USS mANITOWOC LST-1180.

Comments: Hi,
Actually, my wife is the cousin of Alden Schwarz, daughter of CAPT Alden Schwarz. Anyone who has some information on him--just sea stories, some funny stories--it would be appreciated. Alden (the daughter) is trying to find some more information on her father.
Any pictures of Kula Gulf would be appreciated. Finally--does anyone know CAPT Schwarz' ship form WWII? The records of his service were evidently destroyed in a fire. Thanks!

Comments: I served as a QM on the Admiral's staff of Commander Carrier Division 16 which later became Commander Hunter Killer Forces Atlantic.I was a WWII veteran in the reserves and was called to active duty from June 1951 until October 1952. The Admiral had 4 CVE's under his command. Stationed at Norfolk, the Admiral and his staff would go to sea on each one for a period of time. They were the Kula Gulf, Mindoro, Siboney and I can't recall the other. The staff by far favored the Kula Gulf for quality of the food and cleanliness of the ship. Although few of the ships company cared for our coming aboard, we were felt the crew did not mind too much.

Comments: Dear Special People:
I want to first thank all of you who went to war for all of us. I was not born at the time of these tragic days but have many Uncle's and a Father who was inthe different wars.
My question is this: I am looking for a picture or as many pictures as I can obtain on the USS Kula Gulf CVE 108. The reason for this is that my mother is writing a journal of her life and experiences and adding all of the different ships her brother-in-laws were on. My Uncle Johnny Winters was on this ship in I think 1951 and after. Does anyone have any pictures in which we could obtain over the net to download and put in my Mother's Memories and More Book? I would be grateful if you could send them to my email address at karatekicker@marion.net
Please let me know either way and if anyone might happen to know my Uncle John Winters he is alive and doing well.
Thanks again for everything.
Jill Chitwood Marion, Ohio
