Comments: Boarded the "Lady" "Queen of the Seas and Bound for Europe in the Spring" in November of 1946. Served as a Disbursing Storekeeper (DK3) until April of 1948. I don't see many names on these message boards that go back that far. I'd be happy to run onto a shipmate from that long ago period. Comments: I was aboard the Leyte when she exploded in Boston. I was a first division seaman apprentice. I was not injured, fortunately. Shortly after the explosion on the Leyte, I was transferred to the Bennington. She exploded the same way, with greater damage and loss of life. I was then transferred to the USS Lake Champlain, where I finished my duty tour.

Comments: My brother, Gerald L. Henshaw, a crew member of USS Leyte during the Korean War, died today at age 75. He has been in poor health for several years and was predeceased by his wife, Esther. He is survived by three daughters, Mickey, Rita, and Karen, several grandchildren, and 5 brothers, Les and Ross (US Army Vets), Don and Mark (US Air Force Vets), and Rick. Jerry was proud of his Naval service and especially fond of the time he spent on USS Leyte - He will be missed by family and friends.

Comments: I served aboard the Leyte until Dec. 1956, when I was honorably Discharged. I was in the Engine room for most of my tour. I remember going on a Med cruise around that time. Does anybody else remember it. We went to England, Portugal, Greece, Malta, Gibralta and Rhodes. I remember a violent hurricane in the North Atlantic, do you? Help me remember, thanks!

Through this site I was able to re-establish relationships with old
shipmates and re-kindle old memories.  On August 7th, 1998 contacted 
Paul Lovely who has already re-introduced Ira Bossert who ironically
