| HENRY HORTON SR. wrote on April 14, 2011 CITY AND STATE: CA UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: NAVY VETERAN Comments: Served on the USS Manchester from 1949 to half way thru 1953. I am celebrating my 82nd Birthday this month and suffer mainly from asbestosis. I am active as a 65 year old working in my yard and home. I am willing to hear from anyone who served on the ship and don't have any cruise books or photos. I sent them to my sister for safe keeping and the family has no idea where they went to. I would enjoy any pictures, books, etc that anyone can share. I reside in Northern California in case anyone is in the area. Keywords: USS MANCHESTER,Korean War, 1949, 1959, 1951, 1952, 1953 |

MY DAD WAS A CORPSMAN ON THE USS MANCHESTER |
| PAUL BERGEN wrote on February 1, 2011 CITY AND STATE: FRESNO CA UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father David J. Bergen was a Corpsman transferred to the Manchester late in 1950. He now suffers from Alzheimers and is no longer a reliable source. He had many fantastic stories about his experiences during the war which I try to remember from when I was a boy. Is there still anyone out there who can confirm /correct any of these stories? The ship was the newest and last operational Light Cruiser sporting 6 inch guns and so it was kept on station in order to expend as much of the unused ammunition from WWII as possible. Dad arrived the day before cutoff on battle stars so several battles were credited to him although he didnt participate in them all. So he had a gold star representing 10 battles out of a total of 11 for the whole war. He once reported that he and another corpsman were needed ashore in the evacuation of Hungnam (?) They were ferried in by helicopter in order to assist the injured. They unfortunately, they came under friendly fire in a defile that killed the other corpsman and many Koreans Keywords: USS Manchester a Light Cruiser |

LOOKING FOR FRIENDS OF PAUL (BUDDY) LIVINGSTON |
| MELISSA NAEIMI wrote on October 2, 2010 CITY AND STATE: SPARKS NV UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, Paul Donald Livingston served in the US Navy for 18 months aboard the USS Manchester. He died in 1983, but I remember him telling me that at first he was put in the boiler room spinning dials for Bee Bee Rebozo. I don't know if that was nickname, but it stands out to me as an unusuual one. He also told me that he helped pull injured soldiers off other ship(s?) and put colored blankets on them to identify how badly injured they were. He never told me where or what battles he was in. But he did tell me they once sailed through the Baring Strait and also went to Sue St. Marie on the Great Lakes. He was awfully cute in his Navy picture. Does anyone remember him? He must have served 1950-1952. Keywords: USS Manchester, BeeBee Rebozo, boiler room |
