D-DAY MISSION (PILOTS THE QUINCY RESCUED) |
| JUSTIN SILVER wrote on January 31, 2010 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My grandfather is Anthony Tanzola and he served as a pilot aboard a C-47 during the DDay invasion. He dropped supplies for the 101st Airborne then was shot-down into the English Channel. The USS Quincy picked my grandfather and the rest of his crew up out of the Channel. My grandfather stayed with the Quincy for the rest of that mission while they unloaded their ammunition onto the beaches. I've recently started researching his experiences since I know I won't have him to tell me them directly anymore. Anyone that can provide me with different sites, or places to contact I would really appreciate it. Also, if you were on the Quincy at that time and remember this then I would really love to hear from you. Thank you all! Keywords: Anthony Tanzola, DDay, C-47, 101st Airborne |
