Comments: I am looking for my husband's father. His name is John Wood, and he was at Quonset Point, Rhode Island in the late 1940's until the early 1950's. John married Kathleen Monterroso from Boston in the early 50's. They had two sons, Michael, born 12/52, and David, born `53. John left his wife, and his sons never saw their father again. We heard he was living in Florida with a new family. We would appreciate any information.

Headquarters, Great Lakes, Ill. I'd like to hear from anyone who remembers me. I can't remember the names of everyone I knew nor all of the Divisions in the Engineering Dept;, Hope to hear from someone who has a better memory than mine. Those were fun times. Richard

Comments: I am looking for information about my dads tour on the Tarawa. He was ships barber. Unknown when, but he had a photo of the ship with Rock of Gabraltar in the background. Tour probably '46-'49 or '49-'52. When he discharged with friends, they bought Harleys, drove the beaches for a few days then he headed for Montana. Dad never talked about his tour, so we know nothing except the photos. Anybody out there that had a dad or grandpa buy a Harley and play on the beach?

Comments: My dad, Donald Mahr from Minnesota, served on the USS Tarawa when it left Quonset Point, Rhode Island on January 7, 1953. He was 18 years old then and worked in ordinance loading ammunition into the planes. He remembers the ship losing a pilot, Capt. Ralph J. Sayre, and his crewman when the plane went in the water as it was taking off from the carrier over Guantanamo Bay. He also served on the USS Wright. He was in Marine Fighter Squadron 114. He also remembers a return trip from Cuba in Hurricane Hazel when 2/3 of the ship got sick. He said a storm in the North Atlantic was the worst when the ship he was on cracked 18 seams and he tied a rope to himself when he was on deck on guard duty. He would like to hear from people he served with. Please contact me with information. Thank you, and thank you for your service!

Do you know where I can find information on it ? Any information will be

I would like to find any sailors who served aboard the USS Tarawa
CVA-40 from during 1953 until 1954. I was in VF-102 as part of
CAG-10(before it became ATG-201).

We received the Presidential Unit Citation for NEVER missing a
sortie over Korea!!

We were sending at least six groups of four aircraft over the
peninsula each day we were "on-the-line"; Meaning while we were in
the Sea of Japan. We, usually spent 10 days "on-the-line" and 10
days in Yokosuka for repairs. We often needed new wood for the
flight-deck after our banged-up aircraft came back!

We had three other squadrons aboard and rescue aircraft.
