OF VF-112, WHILE PRESSING A LOW-LEVEL STRAFING RUN SOUTH OF SEOUL,SOUTH KOREA, FLEW THROUGH HIGH-TENSION CABLES STRUNG ACROSS THE HAN RIVER, BY THE ENEMY TO CATCH ATTACKING AIRCRAFT, THE ENEMY ALSO DID THIS BETWEEN MOUNTAINS IN KOREA TO CATCH AIRCRAFT. ENS. JACKSON'S F9F-2 "PANTHER" SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE, AND HE SUFFERED PAINFUL FACIAL LACERATIONS, AND PARTIAL BLINDNESS. ENS.JACKSON'S VF-112 WINGMAN, ENS. DAYL E.CROW "TALKED" ENS. JACKSON TO THE USS PHILIPPINE SEA CV-47, AND INTO THE GROOVE. THE LSO TOOK IT FROM THERE, AND BROUGHT ENS.JACKSON SAFELY ON BOARD THE CARRIER, AS ENS.JACKSON COUGHT THE NUMBER FIVE WIRE. THIS TALE OF NAVAL AVIATION HAS BEEN RE-INACTED IN MANY MOVIE AND TV STORIES OVER THE YEARS, ONE THAT COMES TO MIND IS; TOM CRUISE DOING IT IN THE MOVIE, "TOP GUN". He came aboard on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 23 1950 (he was brought out to the Phillipine Sea on the Ammunition Ship USS Katmai). On March 29 1951 he was transfered along with Air Group 11 to the Vally Forge for the trip back to the states. If any one remembers him please contact me, his son. My thanks to all who served.
