Comments: I joined the squadron shortly after they arrived in San Diego after being called up in 1950. I was one of the first of the regular navy guys in the squadron. I was with the unit on both cruises on the Boxer and the Kearsarge. After returning from the Kearsarge cruise I was assigned to VP-48 and returned for another tour of duty to Korea. I was one of the red shirt gang of ordancemen, along with Bill Larkin,Smiley Shy, Jimmie Jones, Ray Peveto, and others Would like to hear from any of us senior young men that are still around.
Keywords: "BITTERBIRDS' The cold flight deck loading ordance during the winter. The aircraft "Sweet Sue" And best of all the R&R in Japan

Just wanted to let you know, VF-144 is missing from your list of units.
VF-144 was originally VF-884 until I believe sometime in Febuary 1952,
when we came back from Korea aboard the USS Kearsarge CV-33.
It was our second cruise, with our first cruise being aboard the
USS Boxer. I was an aviation metalsmith with the squadron from
Mar. 1, 1951 until my discharge from the Navy on June 9, 1953.
Thanks
