PRISONER NAMES IN MY UNCLE'S RED CROSS BOOK |
| RHEA BOTTEEN wrote on October 9, 2011 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: In going through my Great Uncles things, we came across his Red Cross issued journal from his time as a POW in Camp 2. In this journal are pages filled with math and english lessons. The POWs would take "lessons" from each other to keep their minds sharp. In the very back of the book is a list of names. I believe these are all men who were in Camp 2 with him. They are: Dennis Earp, Christofal Lombard, Michael Halley, Guy Temple, HJ Pike, Paul Docker, RH Johnson, RO Guthrie, Bill Wright, Orval Tanoy, Brad Irish, Henry H. Osborne, Gerald Fink,Ronald Bell, Tack Perry, Gerry Maclean, HP Miller, DJ Maclevan, John R. Murray, LB Bounds, Walter A. DID YOU KNOW MARINE FRANK GRAVES? |
| RICHARD GRAVES wrote on July 9, 2008 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: OTHER Comments: My Father, Frank Graves, served in 41(Independent) Commando. They were attached to First Marine Division in North Korea and Task Force Drysdale was named for Lt.Col.Douglas Drysdale, the Royal Marines CO. I have every reason to believe that he was taken prisoner on the morning of November 30th in the defile known as Hell Fire Valley. That is all I know. I don't know which camp he was sent to-I have found references to Royal Marines in Camp 2 and Camp 10. I would love to hear from you if you remember the Green Berets in North Korea. Also, a photo exists of a Commando unit bombing the east coast rail line in October 1950. In the foreground are two kneeling Commandos and between them, in the background is a standing Commando. I have reason to believe this may be my father and I would love to locate a good copy of this photo. Keywords: Hell Fire Valley,41 (Independent) Commando Royal Marines, Task Force Drysdale |

TURKISH PRISONERS IN KOREAN WAR |
| ALI DEN0ZL0 wrote on June 17, 2008 CITY AND STATE: ANKARA TU UNIT: MY FATHER TURK1SH BRIGADE SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I am ret1red colonel from the Turkish Army. In the same time , my father is a Korean veteran and I am h1story doctor , I have a book about Korean war in Turkish. I am representative of Turkish Korean Veteran Assos1at1on. I am doing research for a book about the Korean War. I want to make this book comprehensive. I have all the Turkish documents about the Korean War. But I need to include inputs from the very important US side especially what US liaison officers and other US personnel have to say about the Turkish soldiers. For that purpose, I am trying to contact the US liaison officers who worked with the Turkish brigade. If I am not imposing on your time, I wonder if you would help me find the addresses of these valuable US liaison officers. Here is some info that I have to begin this search: When the Turkish Government decided to send a brigade to the Korean War, an advisory group was attached to the Turkish Brigade. This group was called "The Turkish United Nations Brigade Advisory Group." It was composed of five US officers: 1. Col. Gummby; 2. Lt.Col. Viver; 3. Maj. Munson; 4. Capt. Michael J. Lorenzo; 5. Unknown. The First Turkish Brigade was sent to South Korea on 17 October 1950. It was assigned to Eighth US Army command. Not too long afterwards, it was assigned to the Ninth US Corps, as a reserve unit. On the 25 November 1950, it was assigned to the Second US Division command and participated in the Chongchon( Kunur1) battle. On 25 January 1951, it was assigned to the 25Th US division and participated in the battle of Kumyangjang-ni. Knowing the full name only of Capt. Michael J. Lorenzo, I want to start with him, if he is still alive. However, I do not know his address, nor that of the other group members. I urgently want to get his recollections and reminiscences. Also, I want the reminiscences of any other US military personnel, like you, who worked with the Turkish brigade or who have seen Turkish soldiers in action. I enclosed two photos , one is two person , at r1ght , capta1n Lorenzo ,at left Turk1sh major Inceoglu, second photo , 1s armored school newspaper ,two major met 1n the US and embrace eachother after the war.If you enlarge newspaper ,you may read easly. The captain is the one most likely to be alive (he would have been about 30 in 1950 while the colonels would have been in their forties). Especially ,November 23-November 30 , 1950 , I am looking for 2nd division 72d tank battalion , tank platoon commander lieutenant who attached Turk1sh br1gade during KUNURI battle or other 2 nd d1v1s1on personnel memoirs , by w1thdraw1ng operations Kunur1 Canary-Sunchon road. May be some 2 nd division personel living w1th Turk1sh personel at the same pr1son camp. If 1t 1s poss1ble , you may put a notice in a monthly retiree magazine requesting information. I thank you for your help, With my respects, Ret1red Col. LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION ON MAJOR KASSEL KEENE |
| RAYMOND (RAY) SESTAK wrote on March 5, 2003 CITY AND STATE: WESTERLO NY UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: I am looking for any information on Major Kassel M. Keene. Major Keene's B-29 was shot down on November 19, 1952. The crew is believed to have safely bailed out on and near Cho'Do Island. Several accounts concerning Major Keene have surfaced over the years. The hardcover book "Soldies of Misfortune" indicates that Major Keene was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in July of 1953 for assaulting a fellow prisoner, and was not to be affected by repatriation. I would appreciate any information from anyone that may have any information concerning the whereabouts of Major Kassel M. Keene.
