Comments: to sign him into the army underage. the week it was discovered it was too late. he had been captured by the Chinese communists. He spent teen age years, three years in the pow camp and nearly died on the death march from an infected leg. I remember his stories vividly. HE later went on to become a famous ballet master at Jordon College of Music in Indpls. Indiana. If anyone wants to talk or needs more info for the documentary I will be pleased to help. Quentin

My father spent over two years in Camp 1, Camp 4, and Camp 5
during the war. His life long dream has been to have the story of
him and his buddies in the various POW Camps published.
I have completed a manuscript that I will get published as my way
of thanking him and his buddies for all they did.
I am a retired Air Force CMSgt and a VietNam era vet who also
served during Dessert Shield/Dessert Storm.
Part of my fathers legacy is the pride that he instilled in me of the
military and the love I have for this country.

I received word today thay my father George John Matta died. He was a 28
year U.S. Army veteran how served his country proudly and with honor
during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He was a POW during the Korean War for over two years and was returned
in Operation Little Switch.
I want to thank the Korean War Project for bringing some comradeship and
contacts to my father in his last year and a half. We were looking
forward to being a part of an upcoming documentary being produced by
the A&E Network for the History Channel about the experiences of
returning veterans from our nations conflicts. Unfortunately he has
passed on before the interview could be conducted. He would have enjoyed
that very much.
My father and I were much closer these past few years because of the
research I did for the book and the contacts and information provided by
your web site and the people who visit the site.
George J. Matta Jr. - A proud son, a greatful veteran.
From the KWP, Hal and Ted Barker, our heartfelt condolences during this
time of loss of the family and friends. He will be missed.
