CITY AND STATE: FAREHAM, HAMPSHIRE

UNIT: 170TH MORTAR BATTERY

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: UNITED NATIONS

Comments: Someone in 2009 was searching for the following
British WW2 veteran recalled for the Korean War -
Name Daines, possibly Sgt, possibly KIA April 1951.
I am certain the man you seek was Sgt Herbert DANES
of my unit, 170th Independent Mortar Battery, 29th
British Infantry Brigade. For many years he was
believed to have been taken captive with 26 others
from my unit, but he was KIA 26 April 51, buried in
UN Cemetery, Busan, grave no:1783, row 8, plot 24.
I have been unable to make contact with the searcher.
Contact me by email.

Keywords: Imjin River Battle 22-26 April 1951.
