Comments: looking for personal recollections of my father photos etc. He died nov 2007. he made much of his naval service although he was subsequently invalided out with pleurisy which left him with chest problems the rest of his days. one story was of the shore battery attack which left one of his mates dead after the shell had exploded on the turret this had of course shocked him and i can remember his nightmares as a small child. i would appreciate any info as my knowledge is sketchy of this portion of his life
cheers for any assistance

Comments: Does anyone remember my late father, Colour Sergeant Jack Gilber, RM? He was serving on HMS Jamaica when I was born in 1949 and in Korea. I have his red Commission album with many photographs and also a couple of telegraphs from USS Juno saying what a pleasure it was to serve alongside such a fine ship.

My mother, too, served as a Royal Marine Wren in the Drafting Office at Chatham

Comments: My father, John Mackie, served on HMS Jamaica during the Korean War and when the ship took part in the Yangtze mission involving the Amethyst. He still has a photo album which I believe was given to all personnel. Does anyone remember him (Scottish, from Fife)? Also, did Jamaica see the first casualties of the Korean War - I remember my father saying something about this but he didn't go into it.
Kind Regards
Ewan

He has an amazingly clear memory of recieving fire at Inchon and the unfortunate passing of those on board.

Is there anyone out there that remembers Ronnie and have any photos I can send him please?

Thanks,

Comments: My dad served, I strongly believe, on HMS Jamaica - but after the Korean war. (I have also heard him talk about HMS Shackleton - I believe a minesweeper)

This year my father retires.Since leaving the navy, I think around the early 60's, he has worked for GPO (Old name for BT), United Glass in Harlow and more recently at VW in Harlow, Essex. He is 65 on 27 November.

If anyone knows of my dad or of any memorabilia I may be able to get him as a suitable retirement present I would greatly appreciate it.

He and my Mum play an active role in the RNA for Harlow.

I am biased I know but the two of them help the members and guests of the RNA to the absolute best of their ability,

Although you will not know me

Please accept my

Very Best Regards

Colin Hurley
