NEW KIMPO INFORMATION (K-14) |
| RICHARD L. FINCH wrote on October 9, 2011 CITY AND STATE: JEFFERSONVILLE IN UNIT: 1993RD AACS SQUADRON AT K-14 KIMPO AIR BASE SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: AIR FORCE VETERAN Comments: I have moved from Indianapolis down to the sunny climes of southern Indiana across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. I still have not heard from too many guys who remember Kimpo or the Aircraft Homing Site on Yon Jong DO. I have heard rumors that the island has become part of the Municipal Airport at Inchon. I really would like to see some pictures of all this when it was just an island and then to see it now. Does anyone remember an F-86 that was hit in a dog fight over the North and made it back to Kimpo one day? He had lost his complete canopy and had no head covering and no radio contact. I think the pilot went by the nickname of "Bones Malone"...... Keywords: Booze, Meyers, Haley and others |

Brings back many memories from those days when I was a control tower op during that so-called "police action". Decided to google 1993rd AACS, and this is what I found. Most entries go back a long way, but if there's anyone still around who shares the time-frame and place, I'd like to hear. Still remember that ride from Kimpo to K18 in a RHAF "goony bird". Things were pretty primitive at that time, but we had some great cooks in the mess hall. Great steak cookouts! Then the Marines came in with their WWII Corsairs. Won't go on. Hope to hear.
