Comments: I was at Kimpo Air Base for just a short time befrore going out to the Island of Yongjongdo to set up a radio Homing

I was stationed at Kimpo Air Base for a short time before going out to Yongjongdo Island to set up a Radio Homing Station with the Morse Code call sign of TK (Tango Kilo) which was on the air 24 hours a day to assist bombers and fighter aircraft to return to their respective bases. I was supposed to be there for only 3 months but I kept volunteering to stay and I spent 9 months out there. I am having a difficult time trying to find anyone that remembers anything about this. I know we are all old men by now and I am sure some of them have passed away or some other thing happened to them. Would sure like to make a positive contact. All of my information is above

Comments: Scanning old photos from K18, K14, and K16 to preserve them. Brings back many memories from those days when I was a control tower op during that so-called "police action". Decided to google 1993rd AACS, and this is what I found. Most entries go back a long way, but if there's anyone still around who shares the time-frame and place, I'd like to hear.

Still remember that ride from Kimpo to K18 in a RHAF "goony bird". Things were pretty primitive at that time, but we had some great cooks in the mess hall. Great steak cookouts! Then the Marines came in with their WWII Corsairs. Won't go on. Hope to hear.

I remember playing football for the base, and enjoyed the heck out of that. I also remember making runs to Soeul and racing the jeep down the Anyang speedway ( as we called it).

Comments: I was on the MSTS ship Billy Mitchell enroute to the 1958th AACS on Guam when the Korean War started. I worked, primarily, at JACKSPAC, on Guam, (AIH2) as a Radio Operator until I transfered to the 1973rd at K9, from there I went to the 1973rd at K2 and from there to the 1993rd OL9 in Seoul City. I left Korea in September 1951.

Comments: Already have some info entered here but my E-Mail has changed. It is now Gerpenn@aol.com. Because of my previous entered info I have made contact with at least two fellows who were at Kimpo who knew my friends Booze and Myers and yes, another guy by the name of Haley. The friends that have contacted me have sent pictures in the tents not too far from the F-86 Sabre Jet compounds. I sort of remember them but getting old is not a good thing to do...Anyone else out there who remebers any of this...PLEASE...contact me. PS. Because of this I was able to get my Korean Service Medal from the South Korean government through Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. It only took 50 plus years...I hate to say it now but does anyone remember "Bedcheck Charlie" and :Piss Call Pete"

Comments: Jim Davis, Ray Buday, Fullard-Leo & Sam Collier all had a great get together at the Oshkosh WI airshow put on by EAA Association in July 2003. Sam was one of the orignals at K-18 before there was a tower and before the ROKs started flying out of there with the F-51's. Jim, Ray and F-L had not seen each other for 50 years. We're looking for the others named above. If you know of them give me a shout. Lots of good stories and memories. We want the history of K-18 Tower and the 1993rd to be rememberd. Aloha to all who served.

Comments: Just want to add to previous info...Was at Kimpo about 1 and one half months before going out to Yongjong-Do (Island) to set up homing station. Our call letters were TK (Tango Kilo). In Morse code that was: Dah - Dah Di Dah. We used BC-610 transmitters and I had a small field radio transmitter and receiver unit I used to contact Kimpo with twice a day. We had lots of air drops of supplies and once a month an LSTR would deliver the heavier supplies, such as fuel and other equipment. Was there for nine months. If anyone remembers anything about this operation, please do not hesitate to contact me . Thanks a million. PS. I just recently applied for my Korean Service Medal through Randolph Air Force Base in Texas.
