MAJ. GEORGE DAVIS'S F-86E #51-2752 |
| MIKE CAULK wrote on September 5, 2005 CITY AND STATE: SALINE MI UNIT: 2ND MARDIV SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: MARINE VETERAN Comments: I am building a large scale model of Maj. George Davis's F-86E #51-2752... and need help. There seems to be no photographs of this aircraft! Major Davis was shot down and killed by a Mig-15 on 10 February 1952. At the time he was the leading Korean War ace credited with 14 air victories in a very short period of time. For this he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. I have modeled aircraft for nearly 30 years and have accumulated a great deal of data and photos on the F-86 in general and the Korean War era birds in particularly and have NEVER seen a photo or a model of Major Davis's aircraft. In light of this man's record this is a tragic injustice. I would very much like to rectify this with a museum quality reproduction of his mount however I need help. We know from his widow that Davis named his aircraft "Doris" but has no pictures to confirm personal markings, kill stars/symbols or unit badges. There must be a photo taken by ground crew, another pilot or other support personnel. If anyone has any information that might help in honoring this outstanding courageous pilot it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Michael Caulk 255 Hunters Ridge Drive Saline, Michigan 48176 Keywords: Major George Davis, F-86E #51-2752, "Doris" |
