Looking for Unit # and patch info

Anne Melfo wrote on 2010-03-21 15:09:09.0

Comments: I'm looking for information on my father's Army unit -he was a medic in Korea from 8/51 through 8/53. He was a PFC, his name was Albert Anthony Melfo. He was from Youngstown, Oh, and he played the bugle for his company. The info I have on his form for "Most Significant Duty Assignment" lists: "1st MED FLD 196 APO 971" If anyone knows how I can find out what his unit was, and how I can obtain a patch, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your help.

Information on Frank J Mihalik

David Mihalik wrote on 2010-03-16 16:39:49.0

Comments: Comments: I am looking for anyone that can give me stories or information on my father, Frank J Mihalik from Mt Carmel, PA. I know he was Army and I think he did Engineer work but don't know the exact unit. I know he was close to combat as he talked about the nightly "bedcheck charlie" flights at night from a North Korea plane. He passed away & he rarely spoke with me about the war, as I was too young back then, but I'd like to find out anything I can. Anyone that knew him or remembers stories from their fathers who served with mine would be great. I also know he was a sgt at some time. ANYTHING would help...thanks so much!

Comments: I am looking for anyone that can give me stories or information on my father, Doyle Nelson. I know he was Airborne but don't know the exact unit (82nd or 101st). I know he did a few combat jumps in Korea. I have one picture of him from that time. He passed away in 2005 & he never spoke with me about the war, as I was too young back then, but i'd like to find out anything I can. Anyone that knew him or remembers stories from their fathers who served with mine. I also know he got as high as SSG but due to his anger & behavior, he could never hold a rank =).Also, an injury during a combat jump sent him to Ft. Benning, GA to become a jump instructor, that's all I know. ANYTHING would help...thanks so much!

67th Ordnance Battalion (Ammo)

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Bill Littlefield wrote on 2009-12-22 10:53:46.0

Comments: Was ammo supply specialist with battalion. Gen Bruce Clarke was the Corps CG. Battalion commanders were Hugh Richardson who went on to become first 4 star in the Ordnance Corp and LTC (Col) Sterling E Purnell who worked at APG in his final years. HHC CO was Steve Stasco. We controlled 6 ASPs for the 314th Ord Group in Seoul. Our railhead was at Chunchon. We had ASPs 44, 50 60 72 and 73, the last one I cannot recall. We received a Presidental Unit Citation for the retrograde of ammo from the 45th when they deactivated. It was a fast 18 months and my interest in the Korea people led to the adoption of a Korean girl at 6 weeks old in Seoul during a tour with the UN command in 1971. She is now an RN with three children. She holds an advanced degree in nursing and continues to be our pride and joy.

Help finding information on where and when my father served?

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Doug Neal wrote on 2009-12-08 16:58:54.0

Comments:

Keywords: My father served from Feb. 2, 1951 to Jan. 20, 1953 in Germany. I think he was with the 112th Infantry division Company B, but I am not sure of the exact numbers. He once had a Yearbook that I remember seeing when I was a kid, but it was lost over the years since then. I was curious about where he served and what he did over there. I do know he was with a company that hauled gas in convoy lines, but thats about it.

Joseph Pendolino Brooklyn, NY & his friend Walter Murphy - Searching for any information on either

Marie Griffin wrote on 2009-11-27 09:36:22.0

Comments: My Uncle Joe returned from the war only to be killed close to home. I was born very shortly after. I asked my aunt, his sister to try to dig up any info about where he was stationed, his troop, etc. In the meanwhile, I discovered this site. I am searching for anyone who knew him and would like to share their knowledge. He had many friends. The only name my family has remembered is Walter Murphy. Mr. Murphy didn't know Joe died and came to see him the family business. He did not take the news well. I would love the opportunity to speak with this man, especially. Joe lived in Brooklyn, NY. I believe Walter lived in the NY/NJ/PA area. Thank you.
