Comments: My dad PAUL LEON YORTY,of St.Louis, Missouri served with 4.2 Mortar Co., 7th Regiment, 1st Marines from Dec.1950-Sept.1951. Started in Puson, moved into action in North Korea. He never spoke openly of the war or what he did during the war, and very few words when asked about the war. Wounded in action, 3 guys in a fox hole, he had the shrapnel wounds, his 2 buddies died. Sent to the hospital ship Haven for a few days and onto hospital in Yokosuka for 9 weeks. Returned to action in Engineer Battalion Sept. 1951-Dec.1951. Any one know of my father and what he did? Where can I find out about the hospital logs, or where his company was..etc...Thanks alot...

Comments: My father, CPL George Lawrence, served in the 4.2" Mortar Co, 1st Marines Division, FMF. He passed back in August 2003 and I'm looking for his corpsmen so I can learn a bit more about his time in Korea. He was in Korea from 08/10/52 through 11/23/52. Believe he was wounded in Nov '52.

I was curious if any others knew my father. I'm just starting out on this search so any info/links you can provide would be really helpful. Thank you.

Comments: Does anybody else have this picture? My Dad gave this picture to my oldest sister many years ago and told her to keep it safe! He told her they sent them all but him and all were killed but him out of that company. This is her recollection from the 50's so maybe someone else out there can verify this for me. I am hard at researching my Father's extensive career in the USMC from 1939-1956. This would open the door to so many unanswered questions for me. To those marines who read this let me say to each and every one of you...Please tell your story to someone!!!! Please for the sake of all of the young men to come. It is so important to have the story to keep alive and for the example of how to conduct themselves as men when the country calls. Who else can set such an example with the mark of excellance as each of you? MAY GOD BLESS THE USMC !!!!!!!!!

My brother was killed in Korea; not sure where, with Marines on

family history.

Thanks for responding to my letter. I was beginning to think that the
net was no good.. Now I know that is not true! One of the Marines in
my brother's unit name: Durwood H. Gilbert from
Maine.

I sure would like to talk to him. I have some great pictures from
Korea, one, summer, one in the winter. The name of their unit is not at
hand.

I have some letters but no envelopes. Will there be a reunion in
Oregon? I would like to attend and talk to some veterans. The Marine
that was with my brother when he was killed, visited our family,
shortly after the (conflict) and I have lost track of that person, even
his name.

I believe I blocked it out. Where can I find your book?

Bye for now and thanks again.

Thanks for your assistance and your especially prompt reply.
Apparentlythe spelling you came up with for Joe Leszczynski was correct.
I had obtained the spelling I used from one of Joe's old high school
publications. They left out one of the z's.

John O'Brien was a close friend who served with me in the States and
went to Korea on the same ship in November 1952. We were assigned to
separate units, and I heard months later that he had died on an outpost
called "Vegas" in March 1953.

Before you sent me the details yesterday, I was never able to confirm
this.

You also asked if there was anyone else.

There was an individual in my unit who was killed by a mortar round on
about February 16, 1953. I helped carry his body to the rear and I have
often thought of him over the years. I no longer remember his name, and
I suppose there is no data base that lists casualties by units or
dates.

We were with the 4.2 mortar company, I'st Marine Regiment, and he was
the only KIA in our company during that month. Any advice on finding his
name or any info on him?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
