Comments: Comments: Hi. I went over on the 9th draft and was in Kobe and then moved to Camp McGill near Yokuso (sp), Japan till November 1951. I was in A Company (in Korea) from November 1951 till about March or April 1952 then the rest of the Bn came over from Japan. I then moved up to BN S3 which was the FDC for the firing Batteries.

A Company FDC and HQ was at Tongjin, Kimpo Penninsula. At one time we had an Army 90 mm gun and two Army Search lights attached to A Company. Plus twice we had a Platoon go over the Island of Kanghwa-DO and fire at North Korea from there.

I was the NCOIC of the FDC of A company. Major David Foos was the CO and I believe a Capt Bennet was XO and a Lt Johnson from Iowa was PLT leader for the FDC.

I want home in May of 1952.

John K. Shannahan, USMC RET Omaha, Ne

Comments: I joined the Battalion in the first draft after the 1953 Armistice. After a stint in the Bn CP, I went out to A Co, shared a tent with the Maint. Officer, WO "Goat" Martin and 1st Lt. Stan Dagget. Major "Wild Bill" Streeter was the Skipper and Capt. George Washington Caso was the Company Exec. First Sgt "Mother" Hale and T/Sgt "Gunney" Matthew Doetsch ran the Company. Staff Sgt, later Tech Sgt, Wright was the Mess Sgt.

I was then assigned as Platoon Leader for the 3rd Platoon at Montana Position. We moved from there to Washington Position and I was there until I came home on Emergency Leave in Feb. 1954. Sgt McDonald was my Platoon Sgt.

The Bn was skippered at that time by Lt. Col. Goodpasture and Major Wilson was the Exec. After separation from active duty, I stayed in the Reserve and retired as a Major.

Hi, Would like any info on KPR. Formed in early '52,I think.

Bill Mode,
USMC, Aug.1950-1954, KPR 1953-1954.

According to a library book-U.S.Marine Corps operations in Korea,1952
-1953, KPR was formed in March,'52.

The original units were: Hq & Svc Co;1st Armd Amphib.Bn; 5th KMC BN;
13th ROK Scty Bn; One Bn(2/7) of 1st Marine Div; A Co,1st Amtrac.Bn;
B Co,1st Shore Pty.Bn; D Co,1st Med.Bn; 1st Recon Co; ANGLICO,
1st Sig.Bn; Some other U.S.Army detachments.

These units changed some later. I was in KPR from Mar.1953-
May 1954,first in HQ Co,then Shore Pty Bn.after the cease fire.
