Comments: My father T-SGT Richard Bohn served in VMC-1 in Korea as an electronic countermeasures operator from Feb 1953 to Feb 1954. He then was sent to a recon unit in Opa Locka, Fla. (where I was born) then rejoined VMC-1 in Feb 1956 in Kaneohe, Hawaii until his death in a Skyraider accident in July 1957. I still have his flight log book which documents all the missions he flew in Korea as well as many pictures. I shared some of these with members of the Marine Corps Aviation Reconnaissance Association and would like to hear from anyone who served with my father.

Comments: After leaving the Marine Corps Dad returned to Pittsburgh and in 1958 joined the Pittsburgh Police his rookie year was almost his last was ambushed in an alley and was severly pistol whipped, he went on to become a Gold Badge Detective, went back to school and obtained his masters, he retired in 1985 and started a private investigative firm and in 1987 he was on the T.V. series Unsolved Mysteries, in 1993 he passed away.

Keywords: Dad was in Korea I believe 1952-1953 I know he was a corporal and before he left there he was a sergent and left the marine corps a staff sergent serial number was 1298715, i believe he was with vmc-1 but donot know he did mom said she thinks he was trained in radio's, I know he flew on one flight in a radar variant of AD Skyraider, mom says he flew more than ounce. the family would like to find what he did and was vmc-1 the only unit he was with or where there others, in 1967 we were at the worlds fair in canada a man came up from behind and approached dad and said goddamn he used nickname "stosh", I know the back of that head anywhere I followed it all over korea! Thats why we wonder was he with vmc-1 the whole time also we have a squadren photo and we cant see him in it.

Comments: I was a plane captain in May '52, when VMC was formed. We had a few AD's, mine was Roger Mike -3, looking for anyone else in the outfit between May - '52, and May - '53.

I see no mention of VMC-1 the "composite" squadron. VMC-1 was made up
of half ADs and half F3D SkyKnights, both of which ahd meen modified.

We had two transport squadrons (can't recall their numbers) one flew
four engine R5Ds and the other flew the R4Q Flying Box Cars.

At K3 we had VMC-1, VMJ-1, VMF-114 and VMF-311.

Word was that VMJ-1 flying the F2H2P Banshees was staffed by almost
entirely enlisted pilots. Was this really true?

I'm glad to see your web site. Keep up the good work and Semper Fi.
