Comments: Hi! My friend and I are doing PhD research on the Australian nurses who served during the Korean War. They were only allowed to serve in hospitals in Japan, so had limited interaction. But if you know of anyone who has any knowledged or interaction with the Australian nurses, however brief, we would love to communicate. Thanks.

Comments: Hi, I am writing a dissertation for the University of Tennessee called "Standing in the Shadow of the Greatest Generation: Men and Women of the Korean War." It is sort of a composite biography of those who served starting from childhood in the Depression and continuing on to post-war experiences. I have talked to many male veterans but have had trouble getting in touch with women who served in theater during the war. I would like to survey or interview women who served during this time. I would also be grateful for any female veterans willing to read through my chapters to ensure that I'm not missing the mark on what it was really like in Japan or Korea. I can be reached by email at blue5@mindspring.com or at 2334 Colgate Drive, Fayettville, NC 28304, 910-223-0809. Thanks.

American Red Cross in Korea

Comments: In late 1951-52 I was stationed at 5th Air Force Advance Headquarters, Seoul, Korea.

Red Cross Club-Canteen girls went to Korea in the early days of 1950 at Gen MacArthur's request. They had to be evacuated from Pusan during that first push by the North Koreans. Only about 50-60 girls were in that part of the service.

It was a privilege and honor to be able to contribute an occasional cup of coffee and a donut to the brave men who fought in the Forgotten War.

Later I married a pilot from WW II. But the Pilots from the 4th FIS were something else!

Comments: I am a historian from Dolores CO, formerly from Downey CA. There is a repatriated overseas vet named Clarice E. Mason who was reburied in the Downey Cemetery, Downey, Los Angeles County, CA, date unknown. There were no other cemetery records that would give any more information.

According to an online August 26, 1952 edition of Stars and Stripes, a Captain Clarice C. Mason, WAF, directed the monthly publication Erding Journal, which won first place in the photo-magazine class of publications that year.

I am trying to find out if Clarice E. and Clarice C. might be one and the same person for inscribing her name on a veterans' memorial at the Downey Cemetery in 2008.

If there is anything you can do to help it will be greatly appreciated. Joyce Lawrence, Dolores, Colorado, still a member of the Downey Historical Society.

I received several letters from Korean War veterans, asking me to help them get their stories out there to a public that has all but forgotten them. I want to do that now. Comments: I am searching for my counsin whom I have never met for a family reunion. His birth name was George Govoni and was born sometime around the the early 1950's. His birth father's name is Thomas Govoni from Massachusetts and I do not know his mother's name. It is possible that his mother was an Army nurse but I am not sure. They married while on active duty in the Army, I believe they were stationed in North or South Carolina. Shortly after George was born, they divorced and our family has never seen or heard from George. I do not have very much to go on so I am hoping that someone reads this message and will be able to help me in my search for my cousin. George has 3 half sisters and 1 half brother and a huge loving family who desperately wants him to be in our lives. Please, if anyone has any information please contact me. Thank all of you who have taken the time to read this and best of luck in your search for loved ones. God Bless. Sincerely, Sue

Need Info on USAF Flt Nurse Insignia

Bill McLeod wrote on 2006-03-09 13:40:50.0

Comments: Need to know the date the USAF changed from the WWII style AAF Flight Nurse Wings to the USAF style Flight Nurse Wings?

Also need to know how many different versions of the USAF style Flight Nurse Wing have existed since it replaced the old AAF Wing. For example, I have a late 1950's era USAF Flight Surgeon Wing which has horizontal lines in the back of the shield, however I have never seen a Flight Nurse Wing with that shield design. Current Flight Surgeon and Flight Nurse Wings both have a smooth background in the shield.

Also need to know the date the smaller size USAF Woman Officers Cap Badge was authorized, and what Badge was worn prior to it's introduction? The Female Hat included in the USAF Korean War Flight Nurse display has the larger size male Cap Badge on it.

I have the base for a plaque donated. What I need is the plaque. Among my questions regarding these nurses is information specific to Nurse Margarte G Kennedy; her death is listed as 25 Sep 50 "in the states whereas, all my information concludes that no one survived and only four bodies were recovered.
